By the numbers: Big impact
In his remarks at the April 15 Student Employee of the Year reception, Dean of Enrollment Services Mike Stearney gave a snapshot of student employment on our campus that is worth repeating. According to Stearney, more than 1,000 students are employed on campus, about 500 of those with more than one on-campus job. About 80 students work off campus in work-study jobs that are generally community-service type positions including after-school tutoring, or supervising youth programs at the Boys and Girls Club. Students earn, on average, about $8.75 an hour, and last year, student employees collectively worked almost 286,000 hours, for total wages approaching $3 million per year. By any measure, student employees are a vital and significant part of our campus workforce.
