Students in Congress class get insider insight into the legislative process
On an invitation from Assistant Prof. Aaron Weinschenk, state representative Eric Genrich was on campus last week to speak to students in Weinschenk’s “Congress: Politics and Policy” course. Genrich provided students with information on the evolution of the state legislature and also answered student questions. Genrich spoke on a wide range of topics, including party polarization, committee service, representation, and rule and procedures in the state legislature. Earlier this month, students in the same course had a chance to hear from former U.S. Congressman Dave Obey. Weinschenk noted that “It’s important for students to get to hear directly from people who have spent time serving in legislatures. It’s a memorable experience when they can interact with people who are directly involved in the political process and ask them about their experiences.”
