In the news: Chancellors, including Harden, sign budget support letter

WLUK, Fox 11’s Alex Ronallo took a look at Gov. Scott Walker’s proposed budget for the UW System in a Monday (April 1) story, after System leaders — including our own Chancellor Tom Harden — signed a letter urging legislators to support the proposal. The spending plan likely would set the stage for the lowest tuition increase in a decade or so, said UW-Oshkosh Chancellor Richard Wells, who was interviewed for the story. And while the exact amount of that increase is yet unknown, Jeci Casperson, UW-O’s Student Association president, said lower by any amount would be a relief for students. The letter to legislators, sent Monday, points out several positive aspects of the proposed budget, including that it would provide performance-based funding for economic and workforce development and college affordability. The budget also would provide startup funds for the UW Flexible Option and the ability to address critical quality and compensation needs at all UW schools, and also would facilitate investments in UW facilities that serve students and advance science.
