Senior knows she’ll have a close shave

UW-Green Bay senior Maura Vazquez has donated lengths of her hair several times to Wigs For Kids. On Saturday, she’ll go a step further and give everything she’s got on the top of her head to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Vazquez is willing to have her head shaved for the childhood cancer research fundraiser. That’s about 11 inches of thick hair, she says. “Even though I don’t have money (to donate), I want to show my children that there is always something you can do to help,” said Vazquez, whose children are 8 and 6 years old. “I want to show them that there is always something you can do to make a difference. But to make a difference, you have to reach out and be willing to help.” Vazquez says her hair grows fast and she’s not going to wear any hats or head coverings after her introduction to the clippers at 1:20 p.m. Saturday at Preble High School.

As a participant, Vazquez is accepting financial support for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. E-mail her at vazqme31@uwgb.edu. Support can also be given directly to St. Baldrick’s. Visit www.stbaldricks.org for more information. For a –pre-shave picture of Vazquez see: https://news.uwgb.edu/
