Green out at the Kress Saturday

Saturday’s women’s basketball game at the Kress Events Center is a “Green Out” game for Phoenix fans. Students who come early will receive a free T-shirt. The Phoenix women take on in-state rival UW-Milwaukee at 2 p.m. in the final regular season home game. Quarterfinal action of the 2009 Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship is Wednesday, March 11, at the Kress Center. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. as the Phoenix begins its quest for an NCAA Tournament berth. The opponent is not yet determined.

The UW-Green Bay women’s basketball team is undefeated in conference play (17-0 with one remaining), has already clinched the Horizon League season title, is 25-3 overall and is ranked No. 1 in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 51 points per game. The Phoenix matched a team record by holding opponents to under 50 points 13 times this season. In statistics released by the NCAA March 1, UW-Green Bay was third in the nation in turnover margin (+6.9) and eighth in steals (12.3 per game). Opponents have turned the ball over 23.4 times a game vs. the Phoenix.
