Reminder: Reagan and PATCO
Labor historian Joseph McCartin received major national attention last fall with the release of his book Collision Course: Ronald Reagan, the Air Traffic Controllers, and the Strike That Changed America. In it, he labels it a myth that Reagan was a calculated union buster who lured PATCO into a trap so he could deal a crushing blow to organized labor; untrue, McCartin writes, arguing that clashing personalities, miscalculations and union hubris are to blame for the watershed outcome. Here’s a reminder: McCartin, who is a Georgetown University faculty member, is visiting labor battleground state Wisconsin and UW-Green Bay to deliver a lecture on his book at 2:15 p.m. Monday (March 5) in the Union’s Christie Theatre. Free and open to the public, as part of the Historical Perspectives Lecture Series. More details.
