Cole, Hammerle, Thornton up for Dreamers/Doers Award
Three women with direct University of Wisconsin-Green Bay connections — two current employees and a retiree — are nominees for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Dreamers and Doers Award. The award is part of the Green Bay chapter’s Celebrate Women’s History Month activities.
The UW-Green Bay nominees are Juliet Cole, associate director at the Institute for Learning Partnership, Carol Hammerle, former Phoenix women’s basketball coach, and Jan Thornton, associate provost for Outreach and Adult Access. They are three of six nominees from the region.
The award recognition is just one of two days of activities planned by the local AAUW chapter March 13-14 at Heritage Hill State Park, 2640 S. Webster Ave. Green Bay. Historical tours are planned for 1-4:30 p.m. Friday, March 13 and 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 14. Participants will meet five women from Brown County’s past who will tell about their lives and achievements, and the tour concludes with “tea” with “Auntie” Cotton. Cost is $20.
The Award Luncheon will he held on Saturday, March 14, at the Heritage Hill Education Center. The 2009 Dreamers and Doers Award will be presented by local TV anchor, Erin Davisson. Cost of the luncheon is $35. Deadline for all reservations is Wed. March 4. Call Jill at 920-592-9987 for a reservation form. All proceeds from these events go to AAUW fellowships and local scholarships for women attending colleges in the area.
