State Rep. Dan Murphy recently contributed a thoughtful guest column to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in which he comments on the governor’s budget proposals for the UW System. Murphy, a Republican, represents the 56th Assembly District, a rural-suburban area stretching west of Appleton and Oshkosh. He is also chair of the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities. He praises the idea of more autonomy for the UW System, and he at least raises the possibility that proposed budget cuts might yet be moderated.
