Slammin' time at the game

Phuture Phoenix students got an up-close look at Division I athletics on Dec. 20.

The UW-Green Bay Athletics Department gave the students and their families free tickets to the Phoenix men’s basketball game vs. North Dakota at the Resch Center. The fifth-graders were invited onto the court at halftime and Phuture Phoenix Director Kim Desotell told the crowd more about the program.

The Phoenix treated its guests to a 96-58 blow-out win over North Dakota.

The Phuture Phoenix program partners with Northeast Wisconsin schools with high percentages of students from low-income families and encourages students to graduate from high school and pursue a college education. It exposes children to the college experience through a number of activities, including a visit to campus in fifth grade, mentoring in middle and high school with a college student, and invitations to events such as a Phoenix basketball game.
