UW System asks court to stop unit clarification hearings
The UW System Board of Regents and the Office of State Employment Relations have filed a motion in Dane County Circuit Court to stop unit clarification hearings. Several unions are trying to have a total of about 300 academic staff at six UW System campuses, including UW-Green Bay, reclassified as classified staff and absorbed into existing unions without a vote by those affected employees. (The unions argue the positions should never have been categorized as non-represented in the first place.) The Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission, which previously ruled it has the authority to hold hearings on the issue, has until Jan. 24 to respond to the motion. Read more.
