Kaye’s commencement address selected for ‘Vital Speeches’
The magazine Vital Speeches of the Day, which bills itself as “a monthly collection of the best speeches in the world,” has notified Prof. Harvey J. Kaye of a rare honor: His December commencement address at UW-Green Bay has been selected for inclusion in their February 2016 edition. Haven’t yet seen the speech? There’s video online at http://news.uwgb.edu/log-news/news/12/21/video-kaye-commencement-address/
Meanwhile Kaye will be one of two featured speakers for a Wednesday (Jan. 6) event at the FDR Presidential Library in New York marking the 75th anniversary of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “Four Freedoms” address in 1941. Kaye shares word the talk is expected to be taped for rebroadcast on one of the C-Span channels.
On New Year’s Day, Kaye had published an essay and book review at The Daily Beast national news and commentary site titled “Why Democrats Are Ready for Lincoln.” In commenting on the new Holzer and Garfinkle book about Lincoln, A Just and Generous Nation, Kaye suggests that Honest Abe likely would have more in common with Bernie Sanders than today’s hardline Republicans.
