In the news: President’s plan on student loan debt
President Barack Obama’s plan to ease student loan debt grabbed headlines after it was announced Wednesday (Oct. 26), and local media were among those taking notice. The plan will speed up implementation of a congressionally approved measure that caps the maximum repayment on federal student loans at 10 percent of borrower’s discretionary income. It also allows some 5.8 million borrowers to consolidate loans from two federal programs into a direct loan, which could save some borrowers hundreds of dollars per month. Jim Rohan, director of Financial Aid at UW-Green Bay, was interviewed by The Post-Crescent of Appleton (the story also appeared in the Green Bay Press-Gazette), WLUK Fox 11 and NBC 26.
