In the news: Kenyan student speaks on mall attacks

UW-Green Bay student Sravani Karnam was one of two local Kenyans interviewed Monday (Sept. 23) for a WFRV, Channel 5 story on the Nairobi mall attack that has killed more than 60 people. Karnam has frequented the Westgate Mall, where a multi-day terrorist siege began Saturday, while home on vacation, she said. “That’s why it’s terrifying,” Karnam told reporter Megan Bunchman. “I could have been there. It could have been me that was shot dead. It could have been my family and that’s why it’s terrifying.” Karnam’s family and the family of Northeast Wisconsin Technical College student Christine Kaburu (also interviewed for the story) are safe, she said.
