St. Anthony statue found broken

Public Safety officers found pieces of the stolen statue of St. Anthony on the Cofrin Arboretum trail near the South Circle Drive entrance Friday, June 19. The broken pieces of the plaster statue, which was reported stolen on Sunday, June 14, were in tall grass just off the arboretum trail entrance close to Nicolet Drive. The evidence suggests the suspect or suspects used the trail to transport the 4 ½-foot tall statue from the chapel toward Nicolet Drive.

Police believe the majority of the broken statue was found and disposed of weeks earlier as pieces were found along the trial. At that time, it was unknown what the pieces were as the statue had not yet been reported missing.

University Police are asking anyone who may have observed someone carrying or transporting a large object on the Arboretum trail anytime during the past three to four weeks to contact University Police at (920) 465-2300 ext. 2, or the Crime Stoppers Hotline at (920) 432-7867.
