Phoenix announce ‘we’re contenders now’ in movie spoof
GREEN BAY (WLUK) — For the first time in a long time, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men’s basketball team is challenging for a Horizon League title — and they’re tapping into another worst-to-first story to try to drum up support.
The Phoenix basketball team released a spoof of the commercial from the movie “Major League” on social media Wednesday.
Players and coaches name-drop a few local establishments, and the famous foam cheeseheads sub in for the credit card in the original movie scene.
The video encourages fans to buy tickets to the Phoenix’s next game, Friday night against Purdue Fort Wayne at the Kress Center.
The Phoenix trail Oakland by half a game in the conference standings with four games to go. They are in the midst of a remarkable turnaround in coach Sundance Wicks’ first season. Green Bay has 17 wins this year, compared to three all of last year.
