Harden column reflects on Gannett pay series, UW salary issue

Chancellor Tom Harden got the chance to respond to Gannett Wisconsin Media’s “What We Pay” series, focusing on public employee salaries, with a column in Tuesday’s (Jan. 15) Green Bay Press-Gazette. In a message that was distributed last week to faculty and staff, Harden acknowledges that while discussing salaries is uncomfortable for many people, the series sheds some important light on UW-Green Bay and UW System salaries that lag behind those at peer institutions. This pay gap threatens the University’s margin of excellence, manifesting itself in recruitment and retention challenges, Harden said.
