Details finalized for Oct. 21 congressional debate

The Republican and Democratic candidates for the 8th Congressional District seat will respond to questions from a panel of state and campus journalists in a debate Tuesday (Oct. 21) at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

The candidates, Republican John Gard of Suamico and Democratic incumbent Steve Kagen of Appleton, will debate at UW-Green Bay two weeks prior to the Nov. 4 congressional election. The one-hour debate begins at 7 p.m. in the Phoenix Rooms of UW-Green Bay’s University Union. The event is free and open to the public.

The media panel for the debate includes WisPolitics.com political reporter Greg Bump; Wisconsin Public radio reporter Patty Murray; and Rachel Rivard, editor-in-chief of the Fourth Estate, the UW-Green Bay student newspaper.UW-Green Bay political scientist Timothy Dale will serve as moderator.

Sponsors of the debate are Project VOTE of Brown County, WisPolitics.com, and the UW-Green Bay College Democrats, College Republicans and Student Government Association.

The race for the 8th Congressional District seat is a rematch of the 2006 contest won by Kagen. Kagen is completing his first term in Congress.
