Faculty note: Mention for Zapf, toddler-language research, in American Scholar


The current online version of The American Scholar, the publication of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, includes a “Psycho Babble” feature (clever!) that mentions research conducted by UW-Green Bay Prof. Jennifer Zapf of Human Development. Zapf and her Indiana University counterpart Linda Smith are examining how children learn new word forms, especially plurals. It’s a takeoff, in part, on a classic, 50-year-old study known as “The Wug Test.” Look for the headline, “What Toddlers Know They Don’t Know About Plurals.”
