Faculty note: Lee presentations

Prof. Young Jin Lee, a faculty member in the Cofrin School of Business, presented his research papers at the INFORMS Annual Meeting, held Oct. 14-17 in Phoenix, Ariz. The conference is the largest international conference in the fields of management science, operations research, marketing science, and the decision sciences. In the sponsored session of “eBusiness Models, Business Strategy and Innovation,” Lee talked about his research on the effects of online user movie reviews, as a form of online social media, on box-office sales. Based on his empirical findings of the equivalent sales impacts of online user reviews to the effect of advertising spending, his research re-emphasizes that firms should pay more attention in effectively dealing with online user generated content. In another session, titled “Mobile and Crowd Market,” Lee also presented his paper “Market Switching Behavior of Mobile App Developers,” which explored how mobile app developers can leverage the benefits of the free app marketplace in order to better monetize their paid apps in Apple App Store.
