Notes: Goff, Van Remortel, Voelker

Victoria Goff, associate professor of Communication, presented a refereed paper, “California’s National Women’s Political Caucus and its Use of Public Relations to Achieve Its Goals,” at the annual conference of the American Journalism Historians Association, which was held October 1-4. The article will also be a chapter in an upcoming book on social movements and their use of public relations tools, tactics, and strategies.

Kassie Van Remortel in Outreach and Extension has received a federal grant through the Door County Health Department to develop emergency response health plans and to plan a regional conference on emergency business continuity planning. Laura Gallenberger, bioterrorism coordinator for Kewaunee County, has been hired to assist in the development of the emergency health plans. She will be working part time through mid-February.

Prof. David Voelker (Humanistic Studies and history) has published an essay titled “Assessing Student Understanding in Introductory Courses: A Sample Strategy” in The History Teacher (August 2008). This article explains the “For and Against” exam question that he uses in his courses to assess historical and critical thinking.
