In the news: Furlong weighs in on government shutdown
Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences Scott Furlong offered his take Tuesday (Oct. 1) on the partial federal government shutdown, speaking with NBC 26 about similar past stalemates and what’s at stake politically. “We’ve had situations where the government has been shut down for a couple of weeks,” Furlong said. “Everybody says they don’t want to happen. It comes down to, can they compromise?” Furlong also noted that while political consequences will be felt on both sides of the aisle, it’s Republicans that could suffer more.
