Notes: Breznay, Gaworek, Heuer
Prof. Peter Breznay, Information and Computing Science, presented a paper titled “Transport and Replication Dynamics of Diffusion Processes in Networked Systems” at the International Modeling and Simulation Conference (MS 2008) held in Quebec City, Canada, in late May. The paper is published in the proceedings of the conference. Breznay also served as a session co-chair at the conference.
Prof. Emeritus Norbert Gaworek, Humanistic Studies, may have retired gracefully in 1999, but he’s still publishing. He recently published an essay on Colonel General Hans von Seeckt — regarded as the quintessential chief of staff — in volume I of the two-volume study, Chief of Staff. The volumes of essays were edited by military historian and retired major general David Zabecki. Hans von Seeckt, in addition to holding several major staff positions in imperial Germany and Austria in World War I, served as chief of staff for the Turkish Army and was military adviser to Chiang Kai-shek when the national forces forced the Chinese Communists into retreat. He also founded the German Reichswehr, which Hitler would turn into a mass army before World War II.
Prof. Curt Heuer has a piece of ceramic work titled “Kyoto: Wood/Paper/Clay” in an exhibit titled All Fired Up: Contemporary Wisconsin Ceramics from Sept. 12 through Nov. 2 at the Museum of Wisconsin Art in West Bend. The exhibit includes work by 21 Wisconsin ceramicists. There is more information at http://www.wisconsinart.org.
