Faculty note: Bauer-Dantoin, Meinhardt
Human Biology Profs. Angela Bauer-Dantoin and Daniel Meinhardt just had a paper accepted by the journal Anatomical Record. The paper is titled “17B-estradiol Exposure Accelerates Skeletal Development in Xenopus laevis Tadpoles.” Xenopus laevis is an aquatic, African frog that is readily bred in the lab for experimental work. This marks the beginning of a collaborative effort between Bauer-Dantoin and Meinhardt to determine if endocrine-disrupting chemicals, which are known to affect the reproductive system of amphibians, might also affect skeletal development.
