Faculty note: Vespia
Prof. Kris Vespia, Human Development (Psychology & Women’s and Gender Studies), was informed last week that a research article on which she served as lead author (Multicultural Career Counseling: A National Survey of Competencies and Practices) was selected by the National Career Development Association’s Research Committee as the “Outstanding Article for 2010.” The annual winner is chosen based on a peer review of all articles published in Career Development Quarterly, the national organization’s flagship journal. Vespia and four collaborators from UW-Milwaukee (Mary Fitzpatrick, Nadya Fouad, Neeta Kantamneni and Yung-Lung Chen) examined the responses of a national sample of more than 200 counselors with regard to their perceived multicultural competence, career counseling self-efficacy, and actual counseling practices with diverse clients. The authors will share a $1,000 prize that will be presented at the National Career Development Association’s annual conference in San Antonio.
