WSJ quotes Cupit: Why are students dying to get into death classes?

When Illene Cupit, a professor of Human Development at UW-Green Bay, first proposed a class on death, dying and loss in 1984, her department chair asked, “Who is going to take a class like that?” The class filled instantly, capped at 50. “Death is coming out of the closet,” Cupit, now president of the Association for Death Education and Counseling, said last year at a major death educators conference. A Thursday Wall Street Journal column quotes Cupit and notes the burgeoning academic field even has its own journal, Death Studies. See the article.
