Faculty/staff note: Aldrete
Gregory Aldrete, professor of Humanistic Studies and history, has been selected as a National Lecturer for 2009/2010 by the Archaeological Institute of America. “It’s a nice recognition from archaeologists of the interdisciplinarity of my research, since I am really a historian by training… although I like to use archaeological evidence,” Aldrete says. Each year the AIA selects a group of outstanding archaeologists to lecture to each of its societies located throughout the United States and Canada. Aldrete was one of a few scholars selected from among several hundred nominees for this honor; the AIA underwrites free public lectures by prominent scholars to provide opportunities for the general public to meet practicing archaeologists and to learn of new discoveries. Aldrete has published extensively on topics related to everyday life among the ancient Romans and Greeks.
