UW-Green Bay percussion concert promises varied program

The Contemporary Percussion Ensemble and Hand Drumming Ensemble perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. this Friday (Dec. 10) in the University Theatre. Prof. Cheryl Grosso directs.

On the program for the Contemporary group are a three-gong piece called “Bong’s Garbo”; a Grosso-written trio on gongs, two vibraphones, chimes, and a bowed electric guitar; a snare drum duet also written by Grosso; and two additional works. The second half of the concert will have the 13-member Hand Drumming Ensemble performing five “Rhythm Chant” pieces by Grosso, including her latest composition, “Rhythm Chant Tala,” a piece based on North Indian music played on West African drums.
