Noppe to present results of student bereavement study on Oct. 31

All members of the campus community are welcome to attend Prof. Illene Noppe’s session, “Pathways Through College During Bereavement,” at noon Friday, Oct. 31, in MAC Hall 229. (Rescheduled from an earlier date, her presentation is part of the ongoing Faculty Development Series.) Noppe notes that college campuses are typically places of growth, optimism, and planning, and grieving students often doing so in isolation compounded by academic and social pressures. The National College Student Bereavement Study was initiated to study the impact of bereavement and grief on study habits, social engagement and use of college resources and peer support. This presentation offers the results of this study, based on internet survey data collected from UW-Green Bay and another Midwest campus. The combined number of responses exceeded 1,100 students (both bereaved and non-bereaved). The study’s findings and their implications for faculty and students will be discussed.
