Bands fire up Oct. 23 with ‘Epics, Fables, Legends and Rituals’ show

The UW-Green Bay Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band under the direction of Prof. Kevin Collins will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 23) in the Weidner Center’s Cofrin Family Hall.

Titled “Epics, Fables, Legends and Rituals,” the program will include Prof. Courtney Sherman, soprano, joining the symphonic band to perform “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables. The band will also perform “Bacchanale” from Samson and Dalila, among other selections.

Wind Symphony pieces include “Shadow Rituals” by Michael Markowski, “Ghost Train” by Eric Whitacre and “Xerxes” by John Mackey. Sherman will join the symphony as narrator for several Aesop’s Fables including “The Tortoise and The Hare” and “The Boy Who Cried Wolf.”
