Lawton’s opening show welcomes Chicago Art Institute alumni
The Lawton Gallery’s first exhibition of 2009/10 opens Wednesday (Sept. 9) with a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and an artists’ talk at 5 p.m. The show is an installation by a group of artists calling themselves “i.e.,” and their collaborative exhibit is titled “i.e. illusion,” promising to “explore the possible paradise and magical truth, creating works that question the reality of society’s Utopist ideal.” All seven artists are former students of the Chicago Art Institute now living in far-flung locales from New York to Hong Kong to Chicago. Academic Curator of Art Stephen Perkins says the show “promises to be a smart collective exhibition that addresses a range of contemporary issues.”
