UW-Green Bay students take lead in ‘Islam Awareness’ at Mauthe Center
Student intern Aisha Umar and classmates have helped the Mauthe Center plan four days of activities this week so UW-Green Bay students, faculty, staff and the greater Green Bay community have the opportunity to learn more about Islam.
The week’s events:
• Monday, April 16, 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Phoenix Room A, “What is Islam” Information Booths with games, henna painting and snacks
• Monday, April 16, 5:30 p.m., Mauthe Center, “Islam Unveiled: Shariah Law” with special guest, Imam Mohammad Zakarya
• Tuesday, April 17, 5:30 p.m., Mauthe Center, “Ask Imam: Common Misconceptions about Islam,” with special guest, Imam Mohamed Abdelazim
• Tuesday, April 17, 7 p.m., Phoenix Room B, “Interfaith Dialogue,” hosted by Diversity Task Force
• Wednesday, April 18, 5:30 p.m., Mauthe Center, “Dispelling Stereotypes: Voices of Muslim Women,” panel of Muslim women share their experiences, and answer questions from the audience
• Thursday, April 19, 5:30 p.m., Mauthe Center, “My Hijab Experience,” students, faculty, and community members will talk about their experience wearing the hijab (scarf) during Islam Awareness Week
• Thursday, April 19, 7 p.m., “Breaking Fast with Us,” a special dinner as a wrap-up to the week’s events
