UW-Green Bay lands visit by cartoon artist Lynda Barry
Fans of “Marlys” and “Ernie Pook’s Comeek” are thrilled by the news that artist and writer Lynda Barry will visit campus next Wednesday (April 8) for a workshop and artist’s talk. Barry is a contemporary of “Simpsons” creator Matt Groening and a nationally renowned cartoonist whose strips appear in 50 newspapers (mainly alternative papers). She has also drawn comic strips for Esquire and Mother Jones magazines, written two books and the script for the stage play of her novel “The Good Times Are Killing Me,” which played off-Broadway to rave reviews. Barry will lead a free workshop for writers and artists from 1 to 3 p.m. in University Union 103. (Free, but space is limited to 60 students, faculty and staff, so sign up in advance in TH 331.) Barry will then lead a discussion from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in SA Room 350, and be available to sign books (available this week in the Phoenix Bookstore) until 5 p.m. Sponsored by the Art Agency, the Art discipline, Humanistic Studies and the Phoenix Bookstore.
