Nordgaard, Urben, Spangenbergs join Phoenix Hall of Fame
Green Bay Athletics has announced the addition of four new members to the Phoenix Hall of Fame. The 2010 class consists of two former student-athletes — softball player Debbie Kind Urben and men’s basketball standout Jeff Nordgaard — and longtime Phoenix Athletics supporters and retired classified staff members Richard and Pamela Spangenberg.
Kind Urben is the school’s career leader in wins (33), shutouts (16) complete games (45) and single-season ERA (0.59). She is a Human Biology graduate.
Nordgaard starred as a member of the Green Bay men’s basketball team from 1992-96 and ranks third all time with 1,911 career points. He led the Phoenix to three NCAA Tournament teams and keyed the upset win over California in the first round in 1994. He played briefly for the Milwaukee Bucks and has played and coached professionally in Europe. His major was history.
The Spangenbergs helped found the women’s basketball booster club and have been instrumental in fundraising efforts for more than 25 years. Rich is a 1971 Business Administration grad.
The induction ceremony for the 17th class of the Phoenix Hall of Fame will be held Friday, Feb. 5 in the Phoenix Room of the University Union. There will be a social hour from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by dinner and then the induction program at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling 465-5125.
