Plan ahead: Thousands expected for WSMA festival on May 7

UW-Green Bay is one of the longest-running regional sites for the annual Wisconsin State Music Association (WSMA) State Solo and Ensemble Festival, taking place this year Saturday, May 7. Prof. Kevin Collins is site director. More than 3,000 high school and middle school students will be performing for 30 adjudicators from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the thousands of school music directors, family and friends who attend easily make it one of the most hectic days of the year on campus.  Adjudicators will evaluate performers at 30 different sites, with classrooms across campus in use as both venues and warm-up rooms. MENC and ACDA student music organizations recruit volunteers to monitor rooms, host adjudicators, run information between buildings, and post and tabulate results. Faculty and staff from the UW-Green Bay Music program monitor buildings, host information tables and keep the headquarters operating smoothly.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase the campus to prospective students and first-time visitors! Organizers of the May 7 WSMA festival on campus invite faculty, staff, and students to drop by and lend their support, if only by being “a friendly face who can help guide our wandering and sometimes flustered guests to their destinations.” Also, if you would like to have brochures or materials displayed at the event’s information tables, please send them to Linda Parins, TH 331.  Also if you would like to co-host an information table with your materials displayed, please call Linda at 465-2944.
