Next Philosophers’ Café examines ‘world of beliefs’
The monthly meeting of the Philosophers’ Café is set for this Thursday (Jan. 13) at St. Brendan’s Inn, 234 S. Washington St., from 7 to 9 p.m.
Participants will discuss the Philosophy of Mind and take a step into the world of beliefs. “What grounds our political convictions? What explains our theistic or atheistic inclinations? Where do our beliefs come from? Are some simply innate? Might there be an evolutionary account? How much of an influence do our lived circumstances play?”
Prof. Christopher Martin of Humanistic Studies will moderate. He says the Philosophers’ Café, organized in conjunction with colleagues at St. Norbert College, is a free and open public discussion with the only prerequisites a sense of curiosity about the world and a willingness to discuss it with others.
