Heads up! Flying squirrels soar northward

Tom Erdman, curator of the Richter Museum of Natural History, shared a bit of his expertise on flying squirrels in a recent Appleton Post Crescent column by Robert Zimmer. It seems, said Erdman, that the Southern flying squirrel is replacing the Northern flying squirrel in the state. “In the past 10 years, the Southern has almost completely replaced the larger Northern. Northern flying squirrels are becoming rare,” Erdman said. Read more about these furry, nocturnal creatures — rarely seen but not really that rare.
