Prevea golf tourney to benefit Phuture Phoenix
Golfers at this year’s Prevea Invitational Charity Golf Tournament will get in the swing of things for Phuture Phoenix, with all proceeds from the annual event benefiting the signature UW-Green Bay program. Golfers will tee off Monday (July 30) at Thornberry Creek at Oneida, with 8 a.m. registration and a 10 a.m. shotgun start. Lunch will be served on the course, with a 3:30 p.m. cocktail reception and dinner and awards to follow at 4:30 p.m.
Phuture Phoenix, UW-Green Bay’s signature program to boost college aspirations for students from at-risk schools, recently hosted its 10,000th tour-day fifth-grader, one of some 1,400 students who came to campus in October. The fall tour day marks the beginning of a lasting relationship with students — last year, about 300 UW-Green Bay students provided more than 9,000 hours of tutoring and mentoring at the middle and high school level.
Ongoing support is critical for Phuture Phoenix, said program co-founder and longtime UW-Green Bay supporter Ginny Riopelle.
“We are just thrilled that our friends at Prevea have chosen Phuture Phoenix as the beneficiary for this year’s Prevea Invitational Charity Golf Tournament,” Riopelle said. “Their support will help inspire students from at-risk schools to finish high school and attend college, paving the way for a brighter tomorrow. Phuture Phoenix recently hit a major milestone when we served our 10,000th fifth-grade student, but there are so many more young people to help. We can’t thank Prevea, and these generous golfers, enough for their support.”
