UW-Green Bay’s dean of students announces retirement
GREEN BAY — Sue Keihn, associate provost for student affairs and dean of students at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, has announced her retirement. She will continue with her duties through the end of July.
Keihn came to UW-Green Bay in 1996 from UW System administration in Madison, where she was a senior policy and planning analyst. She succeeded longtime Dean of Students Jerry Olson, who had held the position since 1975.

“I’ve been in education more than 30 years, and I do it because I love the students,” Keihn said. “By virtue of where and what this office is, we have a very hands-on operation. I see students every day. I problem solve with the students every day. It’s very satisfying to have those interactions and to work with these young adults on their way toward earning a degree in higher education.”
Keihn has administrative responsibility for a $13 million budget and oversees University Admissions, Financial Aid and Student Employment, the Registrar’s Office, Academic Advising, Career Services, Health and Counseling, Student Life, the American Intercultural Center, Residence Life, Judicial Affairs, Pre-college Programs, Disability Services, Academic Support and TRIO grants.
During her tenure, UW-Green Bay has seen significant growth and changes.
The University initiated the Campus Life for the 21st Century project, which resulted in the construction of the Kress Events Center and the University Union remodeling and expansion. New residence life halls and apartments were built, expanding the on-campus student population from 30 percent to 40 percent of the total student body. Student services departments were remodeled and consolidated into a “one-stop-shop,” making it easier for students and their families to learn more about financial aid, registration, admissions and more.
Keihn said she is proud of being part of a university that has always been in demand.
“UW-Green Bay is a tremendous resource for Northeastern Wisconsin,” she said, noting that the University often closed its application period before other schools in the UW System. “There are reasons why students continue to choose UW-Green Bay. It’s the people who work here and the things we do here that make it a great place to learn.
“We have a wonderful faculty and staff and an amazing student body. I’m grateful to have spent more than a decade in an environment like this and to have shared in this experience.”
Keihn and her husband, Dennis, UW-Green Bay’s former Athletics Marketing Director, live in Green Bay. The couple has a home in Florida, where they hope to get to more often and improve their golf games, Sue Keihn said.
