Revived Dinner Lecture Series to feature innovations, cuisine of Israel
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will present the next installment in its newly revived Dinner Lecture Series Thursday, March 29, when Prof. Meir Russ presents “Israel: The High-Tech Wonder in the Desert” in the Phoenix Room of the University Union on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
The evening of international education and delicious Israeli cuisine will kick off at 6 p.m. with a social gathering, and continue with the dinner and presentation from 6:30-8 p.m. The all-Israeli menu includes lentil soup, Israeli salad (found at falafel street stands throughout the country), Israeli roasted chicken, couscous with vegetables and Israeli apple cake for dessert.
The event’s featured speaker, Meir Russ, is a professor in Management and chair of the Master’s in Management program at UW-Green Bay’s Austin E. Cofrin School of Business. A native of Israel, Russ will lead a fascinating discussion on his home country and some of its high-tech innovations. Attendees will learn about Israel’s initiatives in strategic sectors, including communication, biotechnology and sophisticated agriculture. Russ will cover policy decisions that drove such advancements, and discuss how these innovations are being applied today.
“This Dinner Lecture Series event promises a fascinating look at Israel and its innovations,” said Mona Christensen, UW-Green Bay director of camps and conferences. “Steering clear of politics, Professor Russ’ lecture will address his native country’s sophisticated advancements in agriculture, communication and technology. Guests will enjoy an engaging lecture and some fantastic food.”
The Israel event is the second in UW-Green Bay’s newly revived Dinner Lecture Series, which kicked off in October with an event featuring the Basque Region of Spain. The series was a popular campus and community fixture in the 1980s and 1990s before falling dormant for a number of years. UW-Green Bay’s Division of Outreach and Adult Access is pleased to be reviving the series, which offers an enjoyable, educational chance to broaden cultural horizons, Christensen said.
