Learning on the job: Award-winning student employee is emblematic

Brad Fischer, Student Employee of the YearBrad Fischer is a prime example of the ways UW-Green Bay students learn on the job while contributing to the efficient operation of the 6,200-student campus.

Earlier this year, the Humanistic Studies major was selected from a pool of nominees from across campus and honored as UW-Green Bay’s Student Employee of the Year.

Fischer wins praise for his professionalism and management skills in a position of significant responsibility as a building manager at the University Union. He has held the job for two years.

Nominator Poppy Grant commented on Fischer’s reliability and initiative. “Brad’s quality of work is exceptional, and he is great with our team of students in delegating what needs to be done in a timely manner,” Grant said.

The April awards ceremony highlighted a week of student employee appreciation activities across campus including an ice cream social and fun giveaways.

Organizers noted that, particularly in an era of tight budgets and limited staffing, student workers are increasingly holding positions of significant responsibility. Such involvement adds to the overall educational experience.
