Sweet Carillon: A homecoming for Weidners, a bell tower for campus

Weidner family group photo at carillon dedication.Cool, wet weather moved the ceremony indoors but didn’t dampen excitement or emotions at the June 6 dedication of the Weidner Memorial Carillon at UW-Green Bay.

The event brought together family, friends and former colleagues of UW-Green Bay’s founding chancellor, Edward W. Weidner, to celebrate both his love of music and his legacy as an academic administrator. The audience included many whose donations made possible the privately funded carillon project. Weidner, who passed away in 2007, had often stated his wish for a campus carillon.

The 35-foot-tall tower was installed in late May on the knoll just east of the University Union, where the reception was held.
