Noppe on teens, grief

Social networking sites are becoming popular destinations for teens and young people looking to cope with grief. When Pvt. Steven Drees, a soldier from Peshtigo, died in combat last month, friends back home turned to Facebook to find support, the Press-Gazette reports. UW-Green Bay Prof. Illene Noppe, an expert on death, dying and loss, said the internet can be a good outlet for grieving adolescents. “We tend to view grief as an individual process, but its always about relationships,” Noppe said. “This is a generation that has been brought up with technology, so this is again perfect for them to express their creativity.” Read more on the issue, and Noppe’s thoughts.
