Alec Brown gets shot in NBA development league

Former Phoenix standout Alec Brown is scheduled to make his debut on Tuesday night (Feb. 17) when he suits up for the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League against the Los Angeles D-Fenders at 9 p.m. CST. Brown, a May 2014 graduate, was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. The 7-footer appeared in five games for the Suns during the NBA Summer League before suffering a shoulder injury requiring surgery. He signed to play the 2014-15 season for a team in Spain’s top league, but his contract has an opt-out for an NBA chance. If Brown makes ‘The Show,’ he’d be the fourth former Phoenix to do so: Jeff Nordgaard and Logan VanderVelden, mid-1990s Phoenix who had short roster stays with the Milwaukee Bucks and L.A. Clippers, respectively, and all-time leading scorer Tony Bennett, Class of 1992, whose Charlotte Hornets career ended due to injury after three seasons. For more on Brown.
