In the news: System President Cross talks belt-tightening

UW System President Ray Cross told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Thursday (Oct. 9) that the System must find efficiencies in an era of limited resources, and that officials will begin exploring ways to streamline administration and prioritize academic programs toward that end. “In an era of limited resources,” he told reporter Karen Herzog, “we believe the primary method has to be a reallocation process internally, evaluating administrative things, finding ways to streamline and shift resources. And we also have to look at the instructional side and fine-tune the way we look at class size and the proliferation of courses.” Ultimately, Cross hopes to find a way to better pay valued faculty and staff, “achieving efficiencies without impacting quality,” he said. “That requires careful and thoughtful analysis.” Herzog spoke with Cross during Thursday’s Board of Regents meeting in Stevens Point. That meeting continues Friday. Full story.
