Hutchison shares update on Great Lakes shipping study, regional support
Prof. Ray Hutchison of Urban and Regional Studies attended a recent informational breakfast meeting with state legislators and local elected officials. The gathering was organized by the “Advance” Municipal Issues Committee of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. The committee, which includes the mayors and administrators of Brown County municipalities, meets monthly, and last month developed a set of priorities for regional development. Rated a No. 1 regional priority was development of an intermodal freight facility for the Port of Green Bay. Dean Haen, port director and a 1991 alumnus of UW-Green Bay, made a presentation about short-sea shipping, and Hutchison shared insight on the current feasibility study to introduce containerized freight to the local port. The study, funded by the Great Lakes Marine Research Institute of UW-Superior and UM-Duluth, involves Hutchison as well as faculty members John Stoll (Public and Environmental Affairs) and Don McCartney (Business Administration).
