At the Neville: Boswell talks beer and democracy

Historian Caroline Boswell, associate professor of Humanistic Studies, will lead a free public presentation, “Alehouses, Inns, and Taverns and the Origins of a Democratic Society,” on Tuesday evening (Sept. 9) at the Neville Public Museum. Boswell is assisting with a series of programs related to the museum’s exhibit on alcohol in history and culture. She’ll talk about the historic role of drinking houses as places of social and political subversion in early modern Europe and Revolutionary North America. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a beer tasting, followed by Boswell’s program at 7 p.m. Read more.
