Collective bargaining sails through Joint Finance
The Capital Times has details of the budget committee’s vote to allow nearly 6,600 faculty and 13,100 academic staff across the UW System to form unions with the power to collectively bargain over wages, hours and conditions of employment. If the measure is approved in its current form by the full Legislature, faculty and staff on each of the UW System’s 13 four-year campuses could vote to form separate unions with collective bargaining rights. Faculty and staff at the two-year UW Colleges also could each form similar units, as could those within UW Extension — allowing for up to 30 separate collective bargaining units within the UW System.
