‘Like going to prom’: Allouez Village Band to play free Weidner show tonight
The Allouez Village Band will play a free concert at 7 p.m. tonight (Monday, June 23) in the Cofrin Family (main) Hall of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. Local 5 Critic-at-Large Warren Gerds previewed the event in a Friday column, speaking with band director Mike Ajango about the experience of performing at a different venue (the band normally plays the Meyer Theatre downtown). “We love performing at the Meyer — that is our ‘home’ — but the Weidner is kind of like going to prom,” Ajango told Gerds. “It allows us to get gussied up and make things special and memorable. The last time we did a June concert at the Weidner was 2007, and we filled the place to capacity — actually they had to turn people away — so we felt it was time to do a repeat.” So get there early, and read more about the show in Gerds’ column.
