Clarification: No ‘additional’ budget cuts expected
Members of the University community are following with keen interest this week’s budget news from Madison, where Gov. Jim Doyle announced Thursday a tentative agreement to remedy what is now a $6.6 billion statewide shortfall. The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee is considering the plan today and Saturday, May 23. While various news reports (including the most recent edition of the LOG e-news) summarized Doyle’s latest plan as requiring “an additional $34.6 million in revenues” from the UW System, officials at UW-Green Bay say the impact here had already been factored into campus budget planning. “We are hopeful there will be no ‘additional’ cuts, beyond those already discussed and identified,” said Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance Tom Maki.
