Editorial emphasizes campus, community role of next chancellor
With the release of finalists’ names Wednesday and on-campus interviews to follow in short order, the Green Bay Press-Gazette is weighing in on the importance of campus and community ties for whomever fills that role. Sunday’s (May 4) editorial called this an exciting time for the University and community, and emphasized that the community aspect of the chancellor’s role is key. “We believe the chancellor should set the example and embrace the community,” the editorial says. “He or she should encourage administrators and faculty to lend their expertise, especially in the areas of economic development, given our economy, which has yet to return to pre-recession heights, as well as education cutbacks and rising costs to attend.” The first public candidate forum will take place at 11:30 a.m. Friday (May 9) in Fort Howard Hall at the Weidner Center.
